Paleo Challenge Update – We’re already up to 15 people, I have a feeling this challenge is going to be BIG! If you’re not in you’re out, time to get involved.

    Happy new year everyone!

    16:00 w/40Lb Kb.

    Happy New Year!

The big question is…. Should I shave this year or next year?

14(?):17 w/45# – 8# less than Rx – my contribution to “Crazy 8s.” Round 7′s pullups were particularly noteworthy. Think we still need to formally determine what, if any, difference exists between a kettlebell “snatch” and a kettlebell “swing.” Opening arguments?

    12:44 Rx
That was quite a ton of fun. Happy New Year Ya’ll!

  6. Andy Dec 31, 2010 / 8pm

11:40 at 44# kb, should have gone rx and gotten high score again.

I did meet my internal goal of doing all the pull-ups unbroken.

Fun class at 5! My resolution for 2011: play more dodge ball.

ple rounds and finishing the rest with 18lb kb. I think the difference between the swing and snatch has to do with the proximity of the kettlebell to the body according to whether you’re breaking the arms. So, for kb swings the kb is further from the body because your arms are straight. The kb snatch involves bending the arms at the elbow during the pull, so the kb is as close to your body as the barbell is in a regular snatch. Tyler explained it better, but I have had some champagne and am typing on my phone instead of interacting with my friends. Sorry for the double post and Happy New Year!

    This is a kettlebell snatch – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FrUqUPO284

    This is a one-arm kettlebell swing – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8z5GgcL8Fs

The beginning of the kb snatch uses the same hip drive as a swing, but there should be no controversy whatsoever over their difference, as they are two completely different exercises.

It should also be noted that the hip drive in kettlebell movements is hips shooting straight forward, which is different than the hip drive in the barbell olympic lifts, which is hips up. Big difference, though they are commonly mixed up.

what does it mean if I have huge bruises on my forearms? can somebody teach me how to not do that?

  11. Mary W. Jan 01, 2011 / 10pm

Jeff does a great job of explaining how to not smack your wrists on the first youtube video (on the snatch).
